MONROE — A local couple and their two adult children are facing charges after police reportedly seized about $800,000 worth of marijuana plants from their home Tuesday night.

Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested James Ford and his wife, Darlene Ford, both 55, and their two sons, James Ford, 34, of Dixmont, and Paul Ford, 31, of Swanville, and charged each with cultivation of marijuana.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said all but the younger James Ford were later released on bail.

The arrests took place at James and Darlene Ford’s home at 360 Swan Lake Ave., where police said they found more than 300 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, 10 pounds of processed marijuana and two semiautomatic assault weapons.

The growing operation, police said, consisted of a hydration system to water the plants and growing lights. Police estimated the growing equipment was worth $80,000.

Police say the couple harvested about 20 pounds of marijuana every three months and shipped it to Massachusetts.
