MONMOUTH — One person suffered minor injuries Wednesday in a car crash that tied up traffic on U.S. Route 202 for more than hour, police said.

The accident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. as Adam Priest, 17, of Wales, drove his 2006 Toyota Prius north on Blue Road, police said. Monmouth Police Chief Kevin Mulherin said the Prius slid on ice as it approached the U.S. 202 intersection and veered into the path of a 1995 Dodge Caravan being driven west on U.S. 202 by Al-Amiri Anees, 51, of Skowhegan.

The cars collided and skidded into a snowbank.

A passenger in Anees’ van was taken to Central MaineMedical Center in Lewiston after complaining of pain.

Traffic in both directions on U.S. 202 was tied up as rescuers tended to the injured and removed the vehicles. Traffic was reduced to one lane for more than an hour.

Mulherin said no charges are expected.
