Mt. Blue school board hires RSU 10 superintendent

STAFF REPORT

FARMINGTON -- The Mt. Blue school board voted Tuesday evening to hire the RSU 10 superintendent as the district's new superintendent and pay him a $122,000 annual salary.

Thomas Ward, 58, of Temple, was offered the position through a unanimous vote by the board last week. He accepted, pending the board approving the contract Tuesday.

After a 15-minute, closed-door contract negotiation, the board unanimously agreed to a contract that stipulates Ward will be paid $122,000 for each of the first two years and allows for salary negotiation the third year. His salary as RSU 10 superintendent was $119,000.

He also will receive 25 vacation days and the same benefits package provided to the rest of the faculty.

The school district's communities are Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Starks, Temple, Vienna, Weld and Wilton.
