Winthrop man, who 'just up and disappeared' still missing

Kennebec Journal Staff

WINTHROP -- Police on Monday continued to search for a Stanley Road man who apparently walked away from his home over the weekend.

Joshua Dutch, 33, was last seen Friday shortly before midnight, said Winthrop Police Capt. Ryan Frost. Dutch did not take any belongings or his car.

"He just up and disappeared," Frost said.

Police conducted two searches over the weekend. Winthrop police and fire departments, along with a Maine Sate Police K-9 team, searched the area on Saturday. A larger search, based at Dutch's home at 553 Stanley Road, took place Sunday afternoon and included Winthrop police and fire departments, game wardens, additional dog search teams and a warden search plane.

The search uncovered no leads about Dutch's whereabouts, Frost said. No additional searches were being planned -- searchers think they've done all they can, Frost said.

Dutch, who has family in the area, was dealing with personal issues, according to Frost, but police know of no specific reason for his departure.

Published reports indicate Dutch at one time lived in Waterville.

"There was some correspondence that leads us to be concerned for his welfare," Frost said, though he wouldn't provide details.

Dutch is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has brown eyes, a mustache and brown hair, although his head was shaved.

He was probably wearing blue jeans and black work boots, but no further details about his clothing were available.

Frost asked anyone who might have seen a man matching Dutch's description to contact Winthrop police at 377-7226.
