Oakland man charged with threatening woman with shotgun

OAKLAND -- An Old Waterville Road man was arrested Wednesday morning after police said he assaulted a woman while threatening her with a shotgun.

Jeffery K. Hunter, 37, was charged with aggravated reckless conduct with a firearm, a felony, and three misdemeanors, according to police Capt. Rick Stubbert.

According to the charges, Hunter restrained the woman, assaulted her and created a risk of serious injury with terroristic intent.

Police Officer Gary Bowman went to Hunter's home after receiving an 11:28 a.m. phone call from a third party who was not at the scene of the alleged assault.

Stubbert said the shotgun "was used in the commission of the crime but it was not fired."

Police spent more than four hours at the house before leaving the scene.

Police arrested Hunter without incident, according to Stubbert. Hunter was also charged with domestic violence assault, criminal restraint and obstructing the report of a crime, all misdemeanors.

Under Maine law, aggravated reckless conduct occurs "if the person with terroristic intent engages in conduct that in fact creates a substantial risk of serious bodily injury to another person."

Hunter was taken to the Kennebec County jail and his bail was set at $4,200.
