AUGUSTA  – The State Medical Examiner’s Office said Nichole Cable, the 15-year-old Glenburn girl, who was kidnapped and went missing for several days, was strangled to death.

Dr. Margaret Greenwald released her findings on Thursday after consulting with the Maine State Police crime lab. The lab has been reviewing evidence in the case.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said that Greenwald determined that Cable died from “asphixia due to compression of the neck.” He did not say whether her death was accidental or intentional.

But authorities have charged 20-year-old Kyle Dube of Orono with kidnapping and murder in connection with Cable’s death.

A police affidavit filed in the case alleges that Dube intended to kidnap Cable and hide her and be the hero, who found her.
