SKOWHEGAN -- A Canadian truck driver escaped injury Monday morning when he lost control of his loaded log truck and tipped over, spilling the contents near the Sappi Fine Paper mill off U.S. Route 201, police said.

"He ran off the road -- he was traveling too fast," interim Skowhegan Police Chief Daniel Summers said later in the day Monday.
The driver, Christopher Sevegny, 29, of Quebec City, was southbound on Waterville Road, which is U.S. 201, about 8 a.m. and attempted to make the right-hand turn onto Varney Road, at the north entrance to the paper mill, Summers said.
The 2000 International 9900 tractor-trailer he was driving is registered to Ltee Transvois of St.-Pamthile, Quebec, according to Summers.
He said Sevegny was wearing shoulder and lap seat belts and was not thrown from the cab of the truck. He was not injured and no charges were expected in the crash, Summers said.
A Maine State Police commercial vehicle investigator assisted at the scene, as did units from the Skowhegan Fire Department and an EMS ambulance from Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.
