High school drama clubs recognized

SKOWHEGAN -- Drama teams from Skowhegan Area High School and Madison Area Memorial High School earned top awards in the Central Region for the 2013 Maine Drama Festival it was announced Sunday.

Skowhegan won first place in Class A for its production of "Uncle Vanya: Scenes from Country Life" by Anton Chekhov. The play was directed by Maura Smith and Timothy Wheeler.

Madison won first place in Class B for its production of "Conflict" by Wade Bradford. The director was Cheryl Seamans.

Both teams will compete in the state finals March 22 and 23.

An official list of winners at other regional festival sites across the state had not been posted by press time Sunday.
