Colby College, Unity College and the University of Maine campuses at Farmington and Fort Kent were all named to the U.S. News & World Report list of Best Colleges 2013.
The annual rankings were released Wednesday and included more than 1,300 four-year colleges and universities.
Colby College, in Waterville, ranked 18th nationally among liberal arts colleges. Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, was sixth; and Bates College, in Lewiston, was 22nd. Williams College, in Williamstown, Mass., was first.
Among regional colleges, the Maine Maritime Academy, in Castine, ranked eighth in the northern section. The University of Maine at Fort Kent was ranked 39th and Unity College 44th among schools in the region, one of four nationally. The Cooper Union in New York City was first.
Thomas College, in Waterville, and the University of Maine at Augusta were unranked but profiled.
