SIDNEY — More testing is under way to determine the cause of death of a 19-year-old Oakland man whose body was found late Thursday by searchers combing a Sidney disc golf course where he had been playing earlier in the day.

The body of Ryan Taylor was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta, where an autopsy was performed Friday.

Mark Belserene, from the examiner’s office, said determining the cause and manner of death requires further study.

Deputies from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office were called about 10:50 p.m. Thursday to DND Disc Golf on Dinsmore Road in Sidney because of a report of an unresponsive man, according to a news release from Capt. Daniel Davies. Police and medical personnel reported no apparent cause of death.

Taylor had been playing disc golf with friends who saw him last at 5 p.m. and left after they were unable to find him, assuming he might have left with other people.

“Later in the evening, family and friends returned to the facility concerned Taylor was there and possibly injured and unable to summon help,” Davies wrote.

Taylor’s body was found in dense woods near a fairway, according to Davies.

Davies said there is no evidence to indicate concern for public safety.

Published reports show a Ryan Allen Taylor listed among the 2011 graduates of Messalonskee High School.

Sidney Fire & Rescue personnel assisted at the scene. Deputies were at the disc golf course until about 3 a.m. Friday.
