BRUNSWICK — The history of lighthouses on the Kennebec River will be discussed at a presentation Wednesday as part of the Friends of Merrymeeting Bay’s Winter Speaker Series.

The discussion, “Lighthouses on the Kennebec,” will be led by lighthouse historian and University of Maine at Augusta Senior College instructor Duane Prugh. Ernest DeRaps, a painter, photographer, writer and former lighthouse keeper, will also attend.

Lighthouses on the Kennebec once guided commercial shipping traffic on the river. Today, lighthouses remain at Seguin, Pond, Perkins, Squirrel and Doubling points, according to a news release from Friends of Merrymeeting Bay, a Richmond-based environmental organization.

The presentation is 7 p.m. Wednesday in Cram Alumni House at Bowdoin College. The event will be preceded by a potluck supper and annual meeting. The supper, meeting and presentation are all open to the public.
