AUGUSTA — Bill Cosby will appear at the Augusta Civic Center 8 p.m. June 24 for a production of “Bill Cosby Live.”

Tickets go on sale 8 a.m. Friday at the civic center box office and at 9 a.m. the same day through Ticketmaster.

According to a media release, this will be Cosby’s only Maine appearance. The 73-year-old perennially popular entertainer last performed in Augusta in November 2001; his first appearance at the Augusta Civic Center was in 1989.

The Philadelphia-born Cosby started as a standup comic. As an actor in the 1960s, he broke the racial barrier in television in “I Spy,” and during the mid-1980s spearheaded the No. 1 program on television “The Cosby Show.”

His hit movies include “Uptown Saturday Night” and best-selling books include “Fatherhood.”

In a prepared statement, promoter Ed Atamian of Elite Entertainment says, “Bill Cosby is, by any standards, one of the most influential stars in America today. Whether through concert appearances or recordings, television or films, commercials or education, Bill Cosby has the ability to touch people’s lives. His humor often centers on the basic cornerstones of our existence, seeking to provide an insight into our roles as parents, children, family members, and men and women.”

The Augusta Civic Center box office can be reached at 626-2400. Other purchasers can find tickets through www.ticketmaster.com or the Ticketmaster phone charge at 800-745-3000.
