PORTLAND — A Workers' Compensation Board member charged with assaulting a man at workers' compensation conference has resigned his post.
A spokesman says Gov. John Baldacci received a letter of resignation today from Anthony Monfiletto. Baldacci accepted the resignation.
Monfiletto pleaded guilty earlier this month to an incident last fall while he was attending a three-day workers' compensation conference in Carrabassett Valley. Police say he attacked 43-year-old Scott Spencer at Sugarloaf's Widowmaker Lounge.
The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting says it was the second assault charge against Monfiletto while on the board. The first happened in 1998. Monfiletto was one of three labor representatives on the board. In his letter, Monfiletto cited "personal reasons" for his resignation.

Of course he resigned. The Dem's are sweating the coming election cycle. Any problem children will quickly dismissed when the public finds out. Only thing we need is more agressive reporting by the major media.

Memic needs to go! Bring back fairness and civility. Every injured worker that has been denied a claim for compensation should be reviewed by an independent panel of personal injury lawyers. Imagine the outrage then! Audit MEMIC! Audit MEMIC! Let's give this one to the new Governor that wants to help Maine workers survive. Audit MEMIC!

Maybe you all should know what happened. Seems the other gentleman was hitting on a woman at the bar who was not receptive to those advances and Mr. M intervened. Probably in the wrong way but not for the reasons everyone here seems to think.

UofA - it was always out in the open. Nothing was hidden. Your "conspiracy theory" doesn't work. What can be said of this, possibly no longer sending STATE workers to a confrence where alcohol is involved and rooms are paid for by the STATE. Then situations like this won't occur. And I am fairly certain it has NOTHING to do with dem's and the upcoming race AmazedAgain. I'm sure your a staunch republican and everything in the WHOLE WORLD is politically motivated, but not this my friend... not this. What is sad in this, is that the state is losing another hard working, dedicated employee. But I guess we should worry about them... not the limp noodles that are hired under the "equal oppertunity" employment status. Ya know, the ones that give ALL state workers a bad name. Ya, those. I don't condon his actions, but at the same time... grieve the loss of a dedicated, caring employee. Wish you the best Mr. Monfiletto.

This man should never have been appointed. Yet another great Baldacci appointment I presume.

And, MissT, the night in the bar wasn't part of the conference. YOur solution of not sending employees to conferences is wierd.

What was the reason for the assult? 2 in over 10 years isn't bad. I'm a small female but I would like to assult someone every time I go to a state office or agency for something. He should not have resigned. More to the story.

Here’s a little bit of info not many might know. The state just passed a bill that eliminated term limits for these board members. So it will take an incident like this, or a retirement to get any new blood on this board.

John Portela, BIW Union official, long time DEM. and appointee to many boards; is involved in the petition signing scandal involving JOHN RICHARDSON. This guy, Portela, and dozens of other unionista DEMS have identical backgrounds. Time to clean house of all these free loading appointees who embarrass us all.
