GARDINER - A Gardiner woman was shot Friday afternoon in an apartment on Washington Street.

Gardiner and Maine State police officers work at the scene of a shooting that occurred Friday afternoon in this multi-unit building at the corner of Washington and Beech Streets in Gardiner.

She has been taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Her condition was not immediately available.
According to police on the scene, the woman was shot in the upper torso. Police declined to comment on the seriousness of her injuries.
Police were questioning a man in connection with the shooting Friday evening.
The shooting occurred in a multi-unit apartment building at the corner of Beech and Washington streets.
Gardiner police are investigating, along with Maine State Police.
Gardiner Police Chief James Toman declined to immediately comment on details of the case, only saying there is not a present risk to the public.
