WHITEFIELD — A  search for a four-year-old child, who is deaf, ended happily last week when the he was found a short distance from home.

Maine State Police were called to the Hilton Road home April 6 after the boy was reported missing, said Lt. Gerard Madden of the Maine State Police.

Three officers, including Trooper Shawn Porter and dog Tex, were able to follow the boy’s tracks, Madden said. The boy was found in the woods about 150 yards from his home.

Madden said the boy was not hurt. The boy was unable to hear members of the search party calling his name.

A police report did not indicate how long the boy had been missing, but Madden said it was a relatively brief search.
