CHINA — Two teenagers were hurt Tuesday morning when two cars collided on slush-covered Vassalboro Road.
Molly Worthley and Abby Waceken, both 15, were passengers in a car being driven by Nancy LaPlante-Worthley, 49, of Vassalboro. The teens were taken to area hospitals with complaints of pain after the crash.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, said Sgt. Scott Taylor of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Neither LaPlante-Worthley nor an 8-year-old child, who also was riding in the car, were injured.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. as LaPlante-Worthley drove her children to school in her 2002 Toyota Camry. LaPlante-Worthley was driving south on Vassalboro Road when she lost control of the car because of slush on the road, Taylor said.
The car slid sideways and was hit in the passenger side rear door by a 1999 Ford pickup truck that had been following the Camry. Neither the pickup driver, Michael Cayouette, 17, of Vassalboro, nor his sister, 17-year-old Angelina Cayouette, were hurt in the crash.
Taylor said no charges were filed.
Vassalboro Road was closed for about 10 minutes as the vehicles were towed away.
