BINGHAM — The arsons that destroyed the town’s public works garage and heavily damaged a business Saturday night are connected to each other, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
“We’ve found enough similarities at both scenes to believe they were done by the same person or persons,” said Sgt. Joel Davis, of the State Fire Marshal’s office on Monday.
On Saturday, fire destroyed the town’s public works garage on Owen Street and also heavily damaged Here’s the Scoop, an ice cream shop on Main Street. Both took place around 10 p.m. Saturday night.
First Selectman Steve Steward said the town lost between $300,000 and $500,000 of equipment in addition to the building being totally destroyed.
He said the town is working with its insurance company to figure out everything that was lost.
“It’s still just a shock and we’re still dealing with it,” he said.
