The victim of a snowmobile crash that occurred Friday in remote northwest Somerset County was listed in critical condition Sunday at a Lewiston hospital, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Robin Lowell, 56, of Freeport, suffered rib and arm injuries when the Skidoo snowmobile he was operating on ITS 87 in Johnson Mountain Township went off the trail on a corner and struck multiple trees, a press release issued Saturday by the Warden Service said.

He was driven seven miles by snowmobile rescue sled before being flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to Bill Jarvis, chief of Jackman-Moose River Fire Department.

The accident occurred on a trail seven miles south of Lake Parlin Lodge on U.S. Route 201 in Parlin Pond, Jarvis said. The lodge is about 13 miles south of the Jackman fire station, he said.

A firefighter and two EMTs went to the lodge with a snowmobile and rescue sled after officials received a report at 6:27 p.m. that a snowmobiler had been injured, Jarvis said.

From there, the firefighter and EMTs were escorted to the crash site, where several people were with Lowell and had built a fire, he said.

Lowell was taken by rescue sled to the lodge in Parlin Pond Township where Jackman Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to the airport in Jackman for the flight to Lewiston, Jarvis said.
