A Skowhegan man is charged with possessing pornographic images of children on computer CDs after Waterville police searched his home Thursday.

Neal G. Teixeira, 30, was arrested Thursday after the search of his home on MRI Drive and charged with possession of sexually explicit material of a minor under 12, and could face more charges, according to Waterville Police Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.

On Tuesday, police searched a Benton storage shed, where they also found child pornography, Rumsey said.

“Additional charges are possible because all of the evidence that we seized hasn’t been forensically examined yet,” Rumsey said. “That’s something that’s in the process of happening.”

Rumsey said police do not know whether the images seized by authorities involve local children. “That has not been ruled out, but it is a standard part of any such investigation,” he said.

The arrest resulted from a month-long criminal investigation by Waterville police that was not related to child pornography, Rumsey said. He would not say what the other investigation is about because he said it could jeopardize the case.

The investigation prompted police to get two search warrants, and on Tuesday officers searched a storage unit at 306 Neck Road in Benton, where they found computer CDs containing child pornography images, Rumsey said.

Waterville police on Thursday conducted a search of Teixeira’s home in Skowhegan with help from Skowhegan police, he said.

After Teixeira was arrested, he was taken to Kennebec County jail in Augusta, where bail was set at $5,000 cash. He is scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court in Augusta on April 15.

He said that the Computer Crimes Task Force reviews and analyzes evidence and will attempt to identify any victims.

A class C felony is punishable by up to five years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
