AUGUSTA — After a report of an armed break-in on Mount Vernon Avenue, police charged three men, two of them after a pursuit Tuesday morning on a Gardiner street.

In a statement, Deputy Police Chief Jared Mills, of the Augusta Police Department, said Zachary Monahan, 25, of Thompson, Conn., Robert Dejesus, 29, of West Gardiner, and Joshua Krajewski, 24, of Augusta, all were arrested and charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, assault and burglary. Krajewski also had warrants out for his arrest.

The stop in Gardiner came after a 10:48 a.m. report of an incident at a home near the Bond Brook Mini Mall. Police were told that a robbery involving multiple victims and two suspects had just happened.

Later in the day, Mills said the victim reported the suspects had used handguns, and emergency radio reports said at least one gun was found at the scene; but Mills didn’t have information on any guns that police might have recovered.

Two suspects had left the scene by the time police arrived, but Mills said police got a description of the vehicle they drove — reportedly a Jeep with Connecticut license plates. Sgt. Joel Davis, of the Maine Office of State Fire Marshal, soon spotted a vehicle matching that description headed south on the Maine Turnpike.

Davis followed the car to Harrison Avenue in Gardiner, where Gardiner police stopped it with the help of other agencies, including the state police and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. Police removed the two suspects from the car at gunpoint and handcuffed them in the street.

Mills said the third suspect was apprehended near the scene in Augusta, but Mills didn’t have information Tuesday about which suspects were arrested in Gardiner and which suspect was found at the scene.
