KITTERY — The retired submarine USS Memphis has arrived at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, where it will be prepared for storage.
The 33-year-old Los Angeles-class attack submarine was decommissioned at the U.S. Navy submarine base in Groton, Conn., on April 1.
Prior to its decommissioning, the Memphis was the oldest active submarine in the U.S. Navy.
Foster’s Daily Democrat says Kittery will host the officers and crew of the Memphis during its time at the shipyard.
