CHINA — A controversial proposal for an off-road truck park on Parmenter Hill Road will be discussed again Tuesday by the Planning Board.

Last month, dozens of neighbors packed the town office meeting room for a public hearing on a proposal by Jeffrey LaVerdiere to use 600 acres he owns for the Wicked Hills Off-Road Truck Park.

LaVerdiere said he wants to charge a fee for those who enjoy trail riding with their large trucks and Jeep-type vehicles.

But neighbors told town officials they are worried about noise, traffic and the possibility that their property values will drop if this type of business moves into their rural area. The town has received 14 written comments on the proposal, with one in support and 13 opposed, said Code Enforcement Officer Scott Pierz.

Check-in procedures and general rules recently re-submitted by LaVerdiere call for a 15 mph speed limit, mufflers, proof of driver’s license and insurance, and an inspection to make sure there are no leaking fluids. Alcohol is forbidden and tobacco must be used inside the vehicle.

Pierz said the board will continue discussion of the application, but it is not expected to vote on Tuesday. The board will meet again Sept. 25.

On Tuesday, the board will also further discuss an application from Thadius Barber to expand the Fieldstone Quikstop on Route 3 to include a Dunkin’ Donuts.
