Police identify victim in Sanford crash

James Desaulniers was passing another vehicle when he crashed into an oncoming SUV on Tuesday.

SANFORD – Police say one person is dead and two people had to be flown to a Portland hospital after a crash on Route 202 in Sanford.

Cpl. Matthew Gagne says 53-year-old James Desaulniers was killed when he improperly passed another vehicle in his pickup truck and crashed into an oncoming sport utility vehicle at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A man and woman in the SUV were injured and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Route 202 was shut down for several hours after the accident, which remains under investigation.
