No employees or customers were injured, but the robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

Police said the robber is a white man, heavyset and about six feet tall. He was wearing a black ski mask and wielding a hammer, according to Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. Police are not saying whether he made threats at the bank.

The robbery at the U.S. Route 201 bank was reported at around 11:15 a.m.

The robber fled the bank on foot and left the area in a vehicle, according to Lancaster. A description of the vehicle was not available, but Lancaster said police were able to determine its location a few streets away by using a tracking dog.

There was one customer in the bank during the robbery, but he was in an office doing business and not in the main area, said Lancaster.

The bank was closed following the robbery and employees remained inside with the doors locked for at least an hour. Three detectives, the deputy sheriff and five other officers were also at the scene.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and is being led by Detective Michael Ross of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. Lancaster also said that police are working with the bank to obtain photos from surveillance cameras.

In August 2012 the same bank was robbed by a man wearing a surgical mask, sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt. A Waterville man, Paul A. Robinson, was arrested and later sentenced to prison on a charge of class B robbery in connection with the hold up.

Police asked that anyone with information to contact the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Detective Division at 207-474-9591, the tip line at 207-474-0230 or by email at sherifftips@somersetcounty-me.org. Rachel Ohm— 612-2368rohm@centralmaine.com
