The Spurwink House is a residential home operated by Spurwink Services. It provides a therapeutic environment for adolescents, who have emotional, behavioral and developmental challenges.

Capt. Shawn O’Leary identified the boy as 16-year-old Michael Pendexter. He was last seen walking near the intersection of Routes 121 and 11. Staff members followed him but lost sight of him when Pendexter ran into a wooded area.

Pendexter has a shaved head and was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black bandana, jeans and sneakers. He is 5'8 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and the Maine Warden’s Service searched the area but were unable to locate Pendexter.

O’Leary said police believe that Pendexter may have been picked up by a motorist while hitchhiking and that he could possibly be heading to Portland.

Authorities are concerned because of the cold weather and Pendexter’s medical issues. Anyone who has seen the boy or has information on his whereabouts should contact the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center at 207-893-1988.
