WARWICK, R.I. — Police say a 25-year-old Warwick man faces charges of breaking and entering after he was found trapped inside a wall at a local department store.

Police say an officer discovered John Ryder wedged in a wall at JCPenney at the Warwick Mall early Saturday.

They say the officer was responding to a burglary alarm when he saw a man exit the store, then go back inside after he spotted the cruiser.

Police say they found Ryder in the wall after noticing a misplaced ceiling tile and disturbed light fixtures. They say he had to be removed from the wall by firefighters, and police later found a backpack on Ryder filled with stolen goods.

Police say they believe he hid in a waiting room until closing time.

An attempt to reach Ryder on Saturday was not immediately successful.
