PITTSFIELD — School Administrative District 53 recently named Dominic DePatsy as the new district superintendent.

DePatsy has more than 15 years of administrative experience in kindergarten-grade 12 education, with 13 years spent as a director of instructional support, most recently in Freeport-based Regional School Unit 5.

At RSU 5, he was responsible for overseeing special education, the gifted and talented program, protecting students with disabilities, and the English language learners program, according to a news release from SAD 53.

SAD 53 serves the towns of Burnham, Detroit and Pittsfield.

DePatsy previously was a special education teacher specializing in behavior and spent two years with the Department of Education as a due process consultant, responsible for areas of mediation, complaints and due process hearings.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in European history before going on to earn a master’s in special education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in educational leadership.

“Throughout his career, Mr. DePatsy has strived to meet the needs of all children in both regular and special education programs,” according to the release.

He has spoken at state and national conferences on topics of special education and educational leadership. DePatsy is a member and past president of the Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities.
