AUGUSTA — Kenya Evans, 20, of Stroudsburg, Pa., pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to a felony charge of unlawful possession of heroin.

She was one of 10 people arrested Dec. 18, 2013, when police raided a home in Augusta and reported finding 44 grams of heroin.

Assistant Attorney General Katie Sibley told Justice Michaela Murphy on Tuesday that Evans was staying in a room in that house with her boyfriend, and he had a bag there that contained 28 grams of heroin.

Sibley said Evans was not involved in handling the transactions but knew what was happening and received some benefits, such as food and being able to live at the house.

Sibley also said prosecutors decided that because Evans had no prior criminal record, the time she has already spent in jail was sufficient for punishment. Evans has been held in jail since Dec. 18.

Murphy approved a sentence of four months in jail and a $400 fine, which Sibley and defense attorney Stephen Bourget supported.
