An armed robber and a getaway driver, both from New Hampshire, were sentenced Wednesday in Portland for their roles in a crew that carried out a string of bank robberies in Maine and New Hampshire last year.

Daniel Barry, 38, of Pembroke, N.H., vaulted over the teller’s counter at Kennebunk Savings Bank in Eliot in October and filled a gym bag with nearly $8,000 in cash while an accomplice pointed a .44 Magnum revolver at bank employees, according to court records.

Barry was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland to serve more than five years in federal prison for that robbery and another in Sanford on Oct. 26. He had pleaded guilty previously to two counts of armed bank robbery.

A woman who was Barry’s getaway driver in the robbery in Sanford, Brianne Mone, 27, of Dover, N.H., was sentenced to serve nearly four years in federal prison. Mone also was the getaway driver in a bank robbery by the four-person crew in Somersworth, N.H., in August.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of aiding and abetting armed bank robbery.

In total, the group robbed five financial institutions last year: the Citizens Bank in Somersworth, N.H., on Aug. 21; the People’s United Bank in Exeter, N.H., on Oct. 7; the Meredith Village Savings Bank in Alton, N.H., on Oct. 10; the Kennebunk Savings Bank in Eliot on Oct. 19; and the Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union in Sanford on Oct. 26, according to court records.

Judge D. Brock Hornby ordered Barry to serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence, and ordered Mone to serve three years of supervised release after her prison term. The judge also ordered them to pay restitution jointly with the other members of the robbery crew.

Authorities broke up the group when they arrested Philip Gage, 46, of Berwick on Oct. 31. His arrest quickly led to the capture of the three others.

Gage was the only one of the four who was accused of having a role in all of the robberies. He gave authorities the names of Barry, Mone and another getaway driver, Marvin Eugene Ansteth Jr., 40, of Somersworth, N.H.

Barry was accused of supplying the guns that Gage used in both Maine robberies, the .44 Magnum used in Eliot and a .22-caliber revolver used in Sanford. Both guns were found during a search of Barry’s home.

All four have pleaded guilty. Barry and Mone were the first to be sentenced. Ansteth is scheduled to be sentenced May 22. Gage is scheduled to be sentenced June 23.
