A quick-arriving bout of freezing rain pelted roads and bridges, contributing to several late-morning accidents in Waterville.
Around 11 a.m., a woman was taken to the hospital after the 2010 Suburu Forester she was driving struck another car and then a utility pole head-on at the corner of Oak Street and Drummond Avenue in Waterville.

Lesley Fowler, 60, of Waterville, was taken by Delta Ambulance to Thayer Center for Health, complaining of head pain, according to Waterville police Sgt. Lincoln Ryder.
Ryder, who was at the scene, said Fowler was driving east on Oak St. at 10:51 a.m. and was trying to turn north onto Drummond Avenue when the crash occurred.
“She appeared to be driving too fast for the conditions and cut the corner too closely,” Ryder said.
Fowler’s car struck a 1999 Honda Accord driven by Paul Hunter, 27, of Benton. Hunter was not injured in the crash, Ryder said, but his car was damaged.
At the scene, the Subaru’s front end was crunched against the utility pole and had sheered the pole off at ground level.
Firefighters, police and Central Maine Power Co. all responded to the accident.
Oak Street runs from College Avenue, near Cumberland Farms, to Upper Main Street. The accident occurred near Ace Tire and Auto Service on Drummond Avenue.
Too much speed in slick conditions was also the cause of an 11:39 a.m. one-car accident on Interstate 95 north in Waterville, just south of mile marker 130, according to state police.
Maine State Police Trooper Jesse Duda said Mary Montville, 75, of Old Town, was driving north in a 2010 Honda Fit and traveling too fast for slippery and slushy road conditions when she lost control of the car and it struck a guard rail on the right side of the interstate.
The car spun out and stopped in the travel lane on the bridge over Messalonskee Stream, Duda said.
“She had some minor bruises and scrapes and she was treated on scene and released,” he said.
Her car’s front end was damaged in the crash, he said.
Meanwhile, state police responded to at least three other accidents on I-95 Monday morning, including a rollover near mile marker 150 in Newport and a crash near mile marker 149 in Pittsfield, according to Duda.
No serious injures were reported in those accidents, he said.
