ST. ALBANS — The cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Woodmere Lane today is undetermined due the extensive damage, according to state investigators.

The fire in the single-story ranch home appeared to have started on the left side of the house, said Sgt. Kenneth Grimes of the State Fire Marshal Office. No one was home when the fire started and no one was injured, he said.

The home is built on a concrete slab, with no basement.

Fire crews from three area towns and an ambulance from Sebasticook Valley Hospital responded after the fire was first reported just before 8 a.m. Monday, according to the radio dispatch log at the Somerset County Communications Center.

Crews from Canaan and Hartland assisted St. Albans firefighters who were on scene for more than two hours.
