NEW YORK — Charges that Vice President Joe Biden’s niece scuffled with New York City police will be dismissed if she stays out of trouble for six months.

Prosecutors told a Manhattan judge Wednesday they agree with the plan for Caroline Biden’s misdemeanor resisting-arrest case. Such arrangements are common.

Prosecutors and defense lawyer James Ligouri noted that Biden has been in inpatient treatment for anger problems since her Sept. 17 arrest. The treatment will continue for three more months.

Biden was excused from court Wednesday. She has been accused of hitting an officer in the chest after her roommate called police about a rent dispute.

Ligouri says Biden regrets the episode.

The vice president’s office had no immediate comment. His brother James Biden is Caroline Biden’s father.
