WATERVILLE — For the second year in a row, Morning Sentinel photographer Michael G. Seamans placed second in a year-long photojournalism contest hosted by National Press Photographers Association.

The contest covers New England and the Canadian Maritimes regardless of publication size.
Seamans, 37, of Waterville, said it is an honor to be recognized by the Association, which he calls “the industry leader.”
“For photographers, that’s the organization that really sets the tone for news photography,” Seamans said. “It’s just a great forum of photographers from all over the world. It’s certainly humbling and an honor to have my name among those other folks.”
Sentinel Managing Editor Jim Evans said that he had high expectations for Seamans when he was hired in 2010.
“It’s particularly gratifying to see Mike’s work getting this kind of recognition from his peers around the country. We’re a small paper, but Mike’s work is as good as or better than anyone’s,” Evans said. “That he’s done so well two years running speaks to Mike’s commitment to excellence and to our readers.”
