Minot man arrested following armed standoff with state police

A Minot man was arrested for reckless conduct with a firearm and domestic violence criminal threatening following an armed standoff with Maine State Police Friday night.

Micale Callahan, 44, fired dozens of shots during a 6-hour standoff at his home on Verrill Road, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

Troopers were called to the home at about 10:30 p.m. after a family member fled the house when Callahan began shooting. A member of the tactical team returned fire at about 5 a.m. and Callahan surrendered.

No one was hurt. McCausland said it was not clear what Callahan was shooting and what guns were involved.

Callahan was taken to a Lewiston hospital for evaluation before taken to Androscoggin County Jail.

The Attorney General’s office is investigating the involvement of the trooper who returned fire, which is standard procedure.
