NH woman hurt in The Forks rafting accident

Morning Sentinel staff report

THE FORKS — A New Hampshire woman treated at a Bangor hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a rafting accident today, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Patricia Guevin, 52, of Kingston, N.H., was on a commercially operated rafting trip when the incident occurred in the Dead Stream rapids area of the Kennebec River, according to Chad Robertson, deputy warden.

An earlier report misidentified Guevin's gender.

Guevin received head and face injuries, but Robertson said she was doing well. She was conscious and alert when responders arrived.

Robertson wouldn't name the rafting company and said he believed she was rafting with friends and family. Maine Warden Service received the call at 12:20 p.m., and Guevin was taken on a backboard through the Carry Brook stairs.

"It's a section where buses can enter and exit near the river," Robertson said.

Guevin was taken by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center. A hospital staff member said Guevin was released this afternoon.

Robertson said she was wearing a helmet and lifejacket.

The Maine Warden Service, Kennebec Valley Ambulance and West Forks Fire and Rescue responded to the incident.
