AUGUSTA — Maine businesses and organizations will have the chance to try out plug-in electric vehicles with grants from Central Maine Power Company.

The company said this week that it will give up to $15,000 to a few selected organizations to lease or buy certain plug-in electric cars.

The program’s manager, Adam Cutter, says in a statement that it’s designed to encourage the use of hybrid and electric cars in Maine.

The company says it’s looking to evaluate the different options of electric vehicles available in today’s market. Participants will be required to collect data about how the vehicle is being used during the first two years of use.
