SACO — Defense contractor General Dynamics was awarded a $28.2 million contract for 12,000 machine guns that will be produced at its Maine gun manufacturing plant.
The Army contract is for M2A1 machines guns, which can be mounted on Humvees and feature innovations that allow military personnel to change barrels quickly.
The contract was announced by U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, who says it will support of hundreds of good-paying jobs at General Dynamics' plant in Saco.
