LePage swears in new Maine House member

AUGUSTA — Maine House Republicans have regained the seat they lost with the resignation of a representative from Garland.

Raymond Wallace of Dexter was sworn into office Monday by Gov. Paul LePage after winning a special election to fill the District 24 seat left vacant by the resignation of Frederick Wintle of Garland.

Wallace's election leaves the partisan makeup of the House unchanged with 78 Republicans, 72 Democrats and one independent.

Wallace is a Vietnam War veteran and was a designer for the Dexter Shoe Co. until the Dexter plant closed in 2001.

House District 24 includes Athens, Charleston, Dexter, Garland, Harmony and Ripley.
