WINTER HARBOR — The widow of a Maine lobsterman is suing another lobsterman for a 2010 boat collision that killed her husband.

Frank Jordan, of Winter Harbor, died after his boat was struck by a lobster boat operated by 38-year-old Phil Torrey. The Bangor Daily News says the Coast Guard is also seeking a $30,000 civil penalty against Torrey for his role in the crash.

Torrey told investigators he wasn’t paying attention when his boat crashed into Jordan’s boat in Frenchman Bay. His attorney said that under maritime law, Torrey’s vessel had the right of way at the time of the crash.

Jordan’s widow, Linda Jordan, said Torrey’s insurance company won’t pay any money. She says the only way to get it to do so is to file a lawsuit against Torrey.
