Sidney man injured in Hallowell crash Sunday

HALLOWELL — A Sidney man was taken to the hospital with head injuries after driving his car into a snow bank early Sunday morning.

Jeffrey Tompkins, 41, was traveling north on Water Street near the Augusta city line when he apparently struck a snow bank with his 1991 Saab about 1:19 a.m.

The car rode up onto another snow bank and hit a utility pole. When police officers and firefighters arrived, Tompkins was unresponsive and bleeding from the head.

Tompkins was taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where staff said they could not confirm whether he was a patient.

Hallowell Police Chief Eric Nason said his department is trying to investigate what caused Tompkins to crash, and criminal charges are possible.
