Man caught driving without license twice
AUGUSTA — A Massachusetts man has been charged after a Maine State Police trooper reportedly caught him driving without a license twice in one day.
Sgt. Aaron Hayden said in a news release that Corey Gilchrist, 26, of Tyngsboro, Mass., was driving south Monday on Interstate 95 when his car went off the road in Fairfield and skidded into the median.
Trooper Diane Perkins-Vance responded to the crash and found there was no damage to the vehicle, but Gilchrist’s Massachusetts license was suspended.
Gilchrist’s car was towed away and Gilchrist rode in the wrecker, Hayden said.
“After he and his vehicle were dropped off, Gilchrist decided to get back into his vehicle and proceed south on the interstate en route to Massachusetts,” Hayden said.
The wrecker driver called police after the driver left. Perkins-Vance stopped Gilchrist on the interstate in Augusta — less than an hour after the first incident.
Gilchrist was arrested on a charge of operating without a license and taken to the Kennebec County jail in Augusta. He was released later on $100 bail. He is scheduled to appear March 6 in Augusta District Court.
