AUGUSTA — Motorists will be able to get back onto Interstate 95 at exit 113 starting Monday afternoon.

Ted Talbot, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation, said paving started Friday and was to continue through the weekend.

Message boards that notified motorists of a detour to the I-95 access at Lyons Road in Sidney will announce the reopening date, Talbot said. The northbound traffic had been rerouted since April 22.

“It really has gone awfully well,” Talbot said. “This is a pretty important milestone in this project.”

The detour allowed crews to rebuild exit 113’s northbound on-ramp. The work is part of a $13 million improvement of the interchange. The project will link Route 3 directly with Civic Center Drive — passing the new regional hospital, the Alfond Center for Health, and the Alfond Center for Cancer Care on Old Belgrade Road.

The project involves creating two roundabouts and installing traffic signals at the hospital entrance and at the intersection of Route 3 and Civic Center Drive.

Talbot said the next major road closure is scheduled for mid-July and will affect Old Belgrade Road.
