Four win uncontested Gardiner council seats

Three incumbents, one newcomer, elected to office.

Staff Report

All four City Council races in Tuesday’s election in Gardiner were won by uncontested candidates, and all seats but one were sought by current councilors.

Terry Berry, a real estate agent whose office is in Hallowell, won the District 1 seat now held by Chris Leake with 151 votes.

Councilor Patricia Hart was elected in District 2 with 169 votes, Richard Heath won in District 3 with 207 votes, and Philip Hart won re-election to District 4 with 162 votes.

Only one candidate, Joseph Gould, was on the ballot for one of two open Regional School Unit 11 School Board seats held by Deborah Holmes and Tony Veit. Gould received 647 votes, winning a seat on the board.

Kathy Chadwick received eight write-in votes for school board, with Kala Ladenheim receiving four votes, and George Trask receiving three votes.

Berry, owner of Century 21 Alliance in Hallowell, has been a Gardiner resident since 2011.

Philip Hart has been a councilor since 1990, according to the city staff. The other two, Patricia Hart, no relation to Philip, and Richard Heath, were elected within the last two years.

Heath replaced Thomas Harnett this year after Harnett became mayor, and Patricia Hart was elected to her seat in 2011.

Leake has held the District 1 seat since the start of 2010.
