RICHMOND -- A fire Friday afternoon heavily damaged the second floor of an A-frame house at 17 Weymouth St, just behind the Dairy Treat, but caused no injuries.

Fire Chief Matt Roberge said the alarm was called in at 3:25 p.m. and the fire was under control within 20 minutes although firefighters remained on the scene for about three hours.

The home was owned and occupied by Tim Acord, who also owns the Dairy Treat ice cream stand on Main Street.

Roberge said the origin of the blaze was undetermined, but that it appeared to start somewhere near the kitchen. An investigator with the Office of the State Fire Marshal helped try to pinpoint it, and Roberge said the fire is not classified as suspicious.

He said Acord planned to stay with friends and relatives while working with the insurance company to have it repaired.

“He should be able to fix it up,” Roberge said, adding that first floor had smoke and water damage.
No other buildings were damaged. Firefighters from Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Gardiner and Dresden assisted as the scene as did a number of townspeople.
