AUBURN — The Federal Trade Commission is holding two public forums to help Maine consumers spot scams and avoid fraud.
A forum in Auburn is scheduled for Thursday morning, with another forum set for the afternoon in Scarborough.
U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, a Maine Democrat, announced the FTC forum in Auburn after meeting with a Maine victim of a Jamaican phone scam last year. Michaud says the lengths criminals will go to steal from consumers is unconscionable.
The cover topics including Medicare fraud, identity theft and telemarketing, charities and fundraising, credit and loan offers, sweepstakes and lotteries, club membership offers and robocalls.
