FARMINGDALE — A local woman was injured Tuesday when her car veered off the road and struck a pair of trees on Litchfield Road.
Sandra Hawkins, 70, was alone in the car and may have suffered a medical problem while driving, said Kennebec County Sheriff Deputy Jacob Pierce.
Hawkins was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and subsequently transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Pierce said. An update of her condition was not available Tuesday.
The crash occurred around noon as Hawkins drove a Volkswagen Beetle north on Litchfield Road. The car went off the right side of the road and struck two trees, Pierce said. The car was destroyed.
Litchfield Road was closed in the area for about an hour as emergency crews tended to Hawkins and removed the car.
Neither speed nor substances was a factor in the crash, Pierce said.
