FARMINGDALE — Police on Monday continued to search for the woman who held up a Maine Avenue convenience store at gunpoint the previous night.

Capt. Daniel Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that nobody has been charged in connection with the robbery at the Circle K at 519 Maine Ave. and police were still investigating.

A woman entered the store shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and confronted the cashier with a pistol, according to Kennebec County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Taylor. She left with an undisclosed amount of money and headed north on foot.

Davies said that the woman entered the store alone and then blended in with the other customers in the store.

“However, as soon as the others exited the establishment, the female produced a handgun and demanded the money from the cash register while threatening the clerk at gunpoint,” Davies said.

Deputies and troopers, including police dogs, searched the area near the store late Sunday. Police tracked the woman to a neighboring parking lot, where she is believed to have fled in a vehicle.

Some law enforcement officers searched along the nearby Kennebec River Rail Trail for the suspect. Detectives from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office major crimes unit interviewed people and gathered evidence, including surveillance footage of the robbery, police said.

Police described the woman as white, wearing a dark winter jacket and blue jeans. She was at first believed to have worn something over her face, but investigators determined she pulled the hood of her jacket tightly around her face during the robbery.

The store is locally known as a Shell station and was formerly owned by Dead River Co., under its former Food Trend convenience store brand.

Davies asked anyone who has information about the woman or the robbery to call the sheriff’s office at 623-3614.
