PITTSFIELD — Two people were hospitalized after a one-car traffic accident in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 late Thursday afternoon.
One person in the car suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, but the other person, who was ejected from the vehicle, was more seriously injured, according to Trooper Chris Carr of the Maine State Police. The two, a man and a woman, are New York state residents, but Carr did not identify them further or give more detail about their conditions.

They were taken by ambulance to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.
Carr said the 2000 Toyota was traveling northbound when the driver came up behind a slower moving vehicle, swerved to the left and lost control, rolling the vehicle over. The man was ejected from the vehicle.
Carr said it was uncertain at the crash scene which person was the driver and which was a passenger. He said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, he said.
Carr said he didn’t know whether the man would be moved later to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor because of his injuries.
Northbound traffic was reduced to a single lane after the accident at mile 143 of the interstate, about five miles north of exit 138, which connects to Hinckley Road in Clinton. At 4:45 p.m., traffic was backed up for miles.
Skid marks could be seen in the grass for a couple of hundred feet on the side of the road to the point where the car rolled over. The crash scene is just south of a bridge abutment and guardrails for the Johnson Flat Road overpass.
Items ejected from the car, including clothing, a cooler and an umbrella, were strewn along the roadside.
The car was heavily damaged and came to rest amid trees in the median strip that separates the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic.
