ROCKPORT — Emergency crews are responding to wires down on a school bus at Route 90 and 17 in Rockport in Knox County.
Emergency dispatchers said at 3:10 p.m. Thursday that it's not clear whether power has been cut yet.
The bus was on its way to pick up elementary school children but had not taken any on yet, said Cathy Murphy, business manager for the school district.
The driver is the only person on board and was not injured, she said. The driver was waiting for crews to shut down the power so that he could get out, she said.
"He's nervous," Murphy said. "He said 'I'm afraid to breathe,' but he's perfectly fine."
High winds knocked over a tree which brought down the wires, Murphy said.
