BOSTON — Federal environmental officials will review site cleanups and remedies at 27 Superfund sites in New England this year.
The Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday it evaluates cleanup and remediation work to determine if remedies continue to protect human health and the environment.
Five-year reviews identify deficiencies in cleanup work. If necessary, actions are recommended to address the problems.
In Maine, the site to be reviewed is in Saco.
In Connecticut, sites to be reviewed are in Woodstock and Wolcott. In Massachusetts, sites are in Acton, Ashland, Holbrook, Lanesborough, Lowell, Mansfield, Norwood, Westborough, Weymouth and Woburn.
In New Hampshire, EPA will review sites in Greenland, Hillsborough County, Kingston, Londonderry, Newington, Portsmouth and Rockingham.
Vermont sites are in Bennington, Burlington, Lyndonville, North Pownal, Rockingham and Strafford.
The other New England site is in North Smithfield, R.I.
